Negotiating waterfalls

Yesterday Jackie Galley and I went to Crichope Linn, near Thornhill, a place that we four writers (plus Jean Atkin and Fiona Russell) has decided would be a good place to focus our Writing Ground project on. I'd never been before but Jean had said the path up the gorge was narrow and slippery so I was a bit nervous setting off. It was a beautiful day and we had fortified ourselves with soup and crusty bread at Thomas Tosh before we started. The path was narrow and slippery but the woodland, river and rocks were compelling. There were a couple of places where the path was inches wide and very muddy but there no question of not getting to the top - I had my new camera with me and I wanted to take the location in with it and with all my senses. We have a reading booked for the Dumfries & Galloway Wildlife Festival at The Mid-Steeple on the evening of Friday 15th April.

On Sunday I'd had the first gathering of aspiring writers from this village - together we are planning to create a publication about aspects of living here. I've already had three submissions of material and there was much enthusiasm for the next meeting and a great diversity of voices. I think the enthusiasm was just as much for the prospect of doing something together as for the writing itself - though the quality of those three submissions is promising - I'm so looking forward to continuing with this.

we're refurbishing our Bowling Green hut too

Craig loves it there! So do the small boys, as they have a taste for danger. Looking forward to hearing the results.
